BRICK PURSE: HEAVY ENOUGH is a publication and collection of nine ready-to-wear statement purses. Featuring repurposed bricks sourced from The Poor Farm Experiment and locally culled fishline from Little Wolf, Wisconsin, the nine bags present a witty commentary on the hegemonic demands placed on women.
Modeled by members of nHnT collective, the individual bags reference superficial concepts such as “perfection” and “glamor” that are used to market commodities to women - and how these ideals shape perceptions of women's bodies, choices, and expectations. Distilling the collection to its most potent form, the pieces in BRICK PURSE: HEAVY ENOUGH offer a unique heft, load, and bulk, forming a paradoxical interpretation of female persona and place. Each piece has a singular identity that carries a ubiquitous, ironic cultural reference for women and power.
